Learning French by Accident

Chase in French Academy

Learn French from the sound up.

The home of Chase Emery Davis's Learning French by Accident method — pronunciation-first French training built around sound, listening, real spoken French and Structure Through Sentences.

Complete beginner or advanced learner — start with the French Sound Palette.

Learn French in the order your brain expects it

Most French courses begin with the page: spelling, grammar rules and written exercises. The Academy reverses that order.

Ears → Mouth → Eyes

Ears

First, learn to hear the sounds and patterns of French.

Mouth

Then learn to produce them.

Eyes

Then connect what you hear and say to the written language.

That is the foundation of Learning French by Accident.

Three ways we build your French

1. Pronunciation

Build French from its sound system: mouth position, vowels, consonants, rhythm, breath, linking and accent.

2. Real Spoken French

Learn the contractions, connected speech, reductions and rhythm French speakers actually use in conversation.

3. Structure Through Sentences

Learn grammar through useful sentence patterns rather than isolated rules. For each structure, we examine why it works, how French speakers actually say it, and how to pronounce it naturally.

The foundation of the Academy

Start with The French Sound Palette

The French Sound Palette is now complete: approximately 2½ hours of structured video training.

It is designed to be the starting point for every Academy member, whether you're learning your first French words or have spoken French for years.

The objective is simple: give your ears and mouth the French Sound Palette before building everything else on top of it.

You'll learn

  • what sounds actually make up French
  • what to listen for
  • where those sounds are formed in the mouth
  • what your tongue and lips need to do
  • why French sounds so different from English
  • how to begin reproducing those sounds consistently

What's coming next

Pronunciation Bootcamp

Targeted pronunciation training built around the problems learners actually encounter. Premium members can suggest sounds, words and pronunciation problems they want Chase to cover, helping shape future Bootcamp lessons and exercises.

Zero to Hero

A structured pathway for building French progressively from the foundations upward.

Who is it for?

Complete beginners

Build French correctly from the beginning instead of having to repair pronunciation later.

Intermediate learners

Bridge the gap between the French you understand on paper and the French you actually hear.

Advanced learners

Refine pronunciation, rhythm and delivery and identify the remaining features of your accent.

This is training, not a passive course library

Listen. Repeat. Speak. Drill. Ask questions.

The Academy brings together structured courses, pronunciation training, real spoken French, sentence patterns, live learning and community in one place. As the Academy grows, so will the courses, live sessions, replays and complete learning pathways.

The goal

Understand native speakers.

Speak more naturally.

Develop a clearer French accent.

Build confidence through sound rather than memorisation alone.

Ears → Mouth → Eyes
